Halloween can be a difficult time for families managing food allergies. Many traditional Halloween treats are not safe for individuals with severe food allergies.
The Teal Pumpkin Project offers an alternative for individuals with food allergies and other health conditions that require specific diets.
It aims to keep Halloween a positive and fun experience for all!
❓What is it?
❓Where did it come from?
❓How to participate?
🎃By now I’m sure the teal pumpkins are covering your instagram feed and if it’s the first time you’ve seen them, you might be wondering what it’s all about.
The Teal Project started in America in 2012 when the director the Food Allergy Community of East Tennessee (FACET) decided to paint a pumpkin teal, the colour of food allergy awareness and hand out non-food items as treats.
This helped to raise awareness and include all individuals with food allergies in Halloween activities.
This gradually became more popular and on Halloween 2014, FARE (Food Allergy Research and Education) promoted the idea as the “Teal Pumpkin Project”.
This movement not only encourages awareness of allergies but also promotes safety, inclusion and respect of individuals with allergies.
HOW TO PARTICPATE
Paint, draw or purchase a teal coloured pumpkin and place it on your doorstep. This raises awareness for food allergies and indicates you are offering non-food treats.
Provide non-food-items as treats for trick or treaters.
Tell your family & friends about the Teal Pumpkin Project and encourage them to get involved!
🙌Share this post with family and friends so can take part and have some non-food-treats ready for the Halloween night in this year 👻🎃
